NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday pointed guns at the Trinamool Congress after Amrita Party chief Ekka’s husband Francis Ekka was arrested in West Bengal’s Darjeeling along with confidential DRDO documents and a large quantity of radioactive materials worth millions.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the TMC of indulging in activities threatening national security.
“Dangerous nuclear materials worth millions of rupees and DRDO documents of confidential nature were recovered from the house of a TMC executive. Francis Ekka, from whom these documents were recovered and these materials were recovered, happens to be the husband of a TMC leader of the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti,” Poonawalla said.
“How can such important documents and materials for national security reach the home of a TMC leader? Is this not a proof of their anti-national antecedents and activities? How can the administration not Did she not know? Is this complicity or blatant ignorance and incompetence? Regardless, TMC has a long history of compromising the national interest for the benefit of the banks’ interests? electoral, compromising national and state interests for the benefit of their corrupt private interests,” he added.
Furthermore, Poonawalla demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and later accused TMC of harboring “infiltrated Rohingyas and bomb makers”.
“We have seen the way they have committed corruption. We have seen the favoritism and shelter given to all kinds of elements like the Rohingya infiltrators, who are making bombs just so that they can succeed in the elections and who now are compromising with national security itself. Shouldn’t TMC be held accountable Shouldn’t there be a full investigation into the levels of protection of this leader? necessary. “
This comes after West Bengal Police arrested Ekka in a joint raid with the Army from Belgachi village in Naxalbari block.
“We found several confidential DRDO documents and a large quantity of radioactive Californium in his possession. The accused did not give a clear answer as to why these materials were with him,” the officer said, adding that the market value of one gram of the seized material could be around Rs 17 crore.
“The accused has been accused of smuggling sensitive DRDO documents and radioactive materials. He may have links with foreign organisations. He is currently being interrogated,” he said.
